ROBERT SCOTT
8, Buchanan Street, Glasgow
Example of the work and mark of Robert Scott:
R.S - Glasgow - 1887
FORMER CHAIRMAN OF GLASGOW GOLDSMITHS
The death occurred on Saturday at 81 Langside Drive, Newlands, Glasgow, of Mr Robert Scott, who was for many years chairman of the Glasgow Goldsmiths Company.
Mr Scott, who was 80 years of age, was a jeweller in the city for a long period, his premises latterly being in Buchanan Street.
In 1932 he attained his jubilee as a member of the Goldsmiths Company, and was a warden of the company for over 30 years.
He became chairman in 1914, and acted in this capacity almost continuously until three years ago.
Mr Scott was a former Deacon of the Incorporation of Gardeners, and was at one time president of the Association of Deacons of the 14 Incorporated Trades. He was a past president of the Bridgeton Burns Club.
Source: The Glasgow Herald - 21st October 1935
The Incorporation of Goldsmiths of Edinburgh, who hold the records of the former assay office at Glasgow, attribute several possible marks to Robert Scott, but as the records from the Glasgow office are unfortunately incomplete, the only ones attributed with certainty are 'RS' contained within an oval, 'R.S' contained within an oblong punch with clipped corners, 'SCOTT' contained within an oblong punch, and 'SCOTT' incuse and without outline.
The first mention of Robert Scott appears to be in 1882.

PATRICK HANNAY
Paisley
Examples of the work and marks of Patrick Hannay:
Patrick Hannay's working period is thought to be around 1780-1810.
Paisley at the end of the 18th century was an up and coming town, becoming wealthy from its cotton industry, that supported at least five silversmithing firms, J & G Heron, John Allen, Malcolm Gillies, and William Hannay, who was undoubtedly related to Patrick Hannay.
