Fochabers ? teaspoon

Post by robert12 »

Hi,
help needed on this mark please.
I know of the JM at Fochabers but the JS is the problem.
Any ideas welcome.

Hi Robert,

Shamelessly clutching at straws, but James Morrison's last address was John Street, Aberdeen.

Hi Trev.
Interesting theory.
Are you happy enough with the JM stamp being James Morrison ?

Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob,

It does appear to match the example that is illustrated in G.P. Moss's 'Provincial Silversmiths of Moray and Their Marks' (p.95), and on this example:

They all have the elongated serifs that are very noticeable on the tops of the 'M'.

Hi Trev,
Perhaps JM just added his marks on a spoon
already made by the mystery JS
and not necessarily in a partnership.
Easy enough to just stamp each side.
