ENGIN 900

Post by Matulda »

I have a rather large bowl marked ENGIN and 900. It's made in art nouveau style, but I don't believe it to be very old. There are no control marks, and ENGIN is just in plain block letters, very much like this. I've tried to google, but all I got was a lot of car engines, so I put my hope to you. Any ideas, if only of country of origin would be helpful and much appreciated!

Engin

Hello,

I can't bet I am %100 true about the origin of your item, but the name Engin sounds purely Turkish male name. If it is true, the name of the maker might be Engin with the 900 purification stamp indicates it was made in Istanbul , Turkey by a silversmith with that name.
Regards,

Constantin

Thank you so much for your input. You're probably right. I've had my thoughts in that direction, but due to lacking knowledge of Turkish (and all the engines in silver coloured Saab 900 I get when I google) I haven't been able to confirm it or to identify Mr Engin.
