Berlin sifter.

Post by paulh »

This is a sugar sifter from Berlin. There are pricked initials on the back ‘H & CH 1819' It has a script letter’ A’ and what I presume is maker’s mark of ‘AW’. Can anyone help me with the identity of the maker please?

In Berlin you'll find at this time about 5 goldsmiths, whose first name starts with A, and the last name begins with W.
Scheffler is only a goldsmith with the characters AT. It is Andreas Gottlieb Wachter (* 1775, married 1812, died 1852)

Have You some better Images of the makersmark?
