BMF Silverware

Post by kpassieu »

I have a set of German silverware that was standard issue at Ramstein AFB in the 1950's. It is stamped BMF 90. Can anyone tell me what the 90 means? My German mother thinks it means that it is 90% silver, but a German colleague says 900 is means 90% silver. I would like some clarification, as I am unable to find the answer in the place I looked on the net. Danke!

Hello, that is German plate. '90' means that 90 gramm of fine silver were used for electroplating. BMF is the mark of the 'Bergische Metallwaren Fabrik'. Best wishes, Bahner

Guten Tag from Georgia (USA). Thank you for your reply. Does that mean it is silverplate? I know nothing about silver. I recently found this set on eBay and was just wondering if it was really silverplate or the "real thing" as Kraut Mama....(my mom) : ) thinks. Danke schoen.
