Hi,
Your box is a piece of Yogya or Djokja silver from Indonesia. This type of silver was mostly produced for the Netherlands market and the collecting of it is seeing a resurgence there. Recently a large exhibiton of this silver was held at the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam. You can read a bit about it here ->

wow thanks for that Tom. Is there anyway of telling how old it is?

Not that I know of, would guess your piece was made ca. 1930 - 1960.

ps. do google exact phrase searches for "yogya zilver" and also "djokja zilver", you'll turn up a number of Dutch dealer sites offering this kind of silver with photos and descriptions and some history.
