Strange Silver Object
Hi guys,
About 10 years ago i got this from a very old man whe knew, at the time he couldn't tell me what it was...
I went to dozens of antiquarians, 2 Auctionhouses and even the museum of antwerp...but nobody knew what it was and where it came from.
Very weird, so i started searching on the net for hallmarks and makers and that led me to believe that the maker is Bruckmann & sohne from germany.
I contacted a museum in germany about this and they told me they were not sure if it is Bruckmann made, the problem is that they used a single headed eagle and not a double headed eagle like on my item.
If it's not from Germany then maybe from Austria of Russia but i'm not an expert so i would like some opnions from you guys.
I'l post some pics of it.
If you want to see larger pcis of it then click on this link: http://tinypic.com/r/b4yvqf/6, http://tinypic.com/r/4zwc4/6.

Re: Strange Silver Object
Hello, you may want to contact the workshop that made this: Werner and Margarete Oehlschlaeger at Lübeck, Germany. Believe she is still active (and probably made this), he died a few years ago. Their maker's mark (a kind of square within a larger square) is documented on their homepage .silberschmiede-oehlschlaeger.de . The eagle is the old city mark of Lübeck and was sometimes used by modern Lübeck silversmiths, too. As to the mark on the right hand side - cannot see it clearly and don't think it was punched by Oehlschlaeger, could be an import mark of some kind. Best wishes, Bahner

Hi,
I'ts actually a sterling silver/fine gold design box, Werner Oehlschlaeger made it in 1991.
Margarete Oehlschlaeger told me this in an email today.
I'ts also an unique piece if i understand german correctly...google translate doesn't translate that wel lol
In September/october there will be an exhibition of his work in their town Lubeck and i will probably loan my box to her for the exhibition.
PS: does anyone know a good translator online? I mailed in english but she replied in german and i don't understand everthing.
Thanks guys

Hi
if you post the German text in here I can help, or another German speaking member. I think here a transator machin will not help.
Regards
Jörg

Re: Strange Silver Object
ok guys here it goes...
Sehr geehrter Herr Jorge,
Margarete Oehlschlaeger
I apreciate the help, afterwards i will delete this message as it is a personal email from miss oehlschlaeger.

Re: Strange Silver Object
Hi
here a tranlation attempt:
"Thank you for your mail. Unfortunately I can answer just now.
Your pictured can is really from our shop. It is, as can be seen by the stamp (mark), crafted in 1991 by my husband. The can is 925 Sterling silver, and fine Gold is brazed (fused) on it. This brazing (fusing) of fine Gold is a technique developped by my husband,
I would recondition the can free of charge, so the fine Gold will be accentuated. My husband passed away in 2008, but I continue the shop and the Studio. I would be interested where you got the can from. I am available for further questions. In Sept. / Oct. 2013 an exhibition with objects from my husband will take place here in the Museum of Lübeck. Probably you would be willing to provide the object on loan, this because it is unique and from my husband.
I would be happy to hear from you. Kind regards, Margarete Oehlschlaeger"
All the best
Jörg

Hi Joerg,
thanks alot for the translation, wow what a story...
I'm guessing that they custom made this for Vic Janssens, discovered that he used to place ordes with several silversmids.
So this is probably one of them.
Thanks for the help guys
