My husband once got as a gift from a relative a silver item that we beleive is an Russian Gun powder falsk (I guess Russian from the letter). The silver markings looks similar to the ones you have on this site for Russia. I was wondering if anyone could help us with some information on this item, e.g. is it really Russain, how old is it, and is our guess for Gun powder flask correct? We really like this one and it is a pity we know absolutley nothing about it. So anything you could tell us would be really appreichiated. The bottom can be unscrewed, and the same marking can be found also here, but with a more "blurry" City mark.
Unfortunately the silver mark is not as clear in the picture. Looking at the list of markings to me it looks similar to the City Mark for St. Petersburg with two anchors, or Misk. There are three distinc "legs" at the bottom of the mark, and on top something like a very small V seem to be sticking out on top... Did not find any JAL for silversmiths, so probably a lesser known one.
I think the phote shows the text upside down. Tried to decode the letters but too many letter I could not figure out what to map to. Must be an older Russian alaphabet, or maybe it is not Russian...
