Goldworkers List (Section VII).
He was born in Clerkenwell around 1796.
He married Esther Mark at St Pancras church in 1817; both were of that parish.
Christenings are recorded for three of their children all on the same day in 1827 at St Leonard, Shoreditch. Their father is shown as a jeweller from Paul Square.
He entered a maker’s mark in 1833 at Goldsmiths Hall as a goldworker at 11 St James Street, Clerkenwell which was an address also recorded in 1829 for jeweller William Pauley (Grimwade p.385).
Christening records for two more of their children on the same day in 1837 at St Leonard, Shoreditch however show their father still at the Paul Square address.
The 1841 UK Census shows Esther (known as Hetty) aged 45 years as a jeweller at Sloane Square, Chelsea living with just her daughter Rosetta aged 20 years. At the time of this Census her husband William, also aged 45 years, was apparently at Broad Street Portsmouth as a jeweller living with another daughter Emma aged 16 years.
The 1851 Census records William and Esther together at Grove Lane, Dulwich where he was a jeweller.
Hetty’s (Esther) death is recorded in the Camberwell register of 1856.
The UK Censuses 1861-81 record William continuing as a jeweller at The Grove or Grove Lane, Dulwich, Camberwell.
His death is recorded in the Camberwell register for the first quarter of 1883.
