Stainless Steel or Sterling Silver....

Post by pothead »

.... or neither?

Sorry, really no idea what this Danish Bowl is. It is marked
??SSDENMARK to the base. It has a nice chased foot, which looks like it may have had some gilding on it at some time. It looks like silver, but I don't think it's soft enough, so maybe it's plate?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Danish hallmarks were unfortunately retired in 1977 and silver products from that date are often marked '925S'

A clearer photo of the mark may help.

The possibility of stainless steel can be eliminated by checking with a magnet.

Many thanks for your warm welcome Trev.

I didn't think I'd be able to get better pics, but there's a macro feature on my camera I've just found. Bit better eh?

Could that possibly be a '5' of 925? then SS for Sterling Silver?

There's also a partial line of text below which I hadn't noticed before.

I look forward to hearing from the experts.

Hello.

I wonder if that's a Jprgen Th. Steffensen mark?
