Dutch Art Deco?

Post by gyl »

I have recently acquired Dutch Art Deco tea pot. The hallmarks look to me as first class silver - there is Minerva with letter A (i think) under the lid and Lion alone on the side of the pot. I could not find manufacturer 3 I D A, but the confusion is the date — letter I looks like 1868 to me which is a little early for Art Deco. Are my assumptions correct?

Thank you

Hi,

The maker is J.D. Arnoldi (working from 1863 to 1873 in Amsterdam.
Benten & Zonen is the shopkeepers mark.
The date 1868 is correct. This is not a typical Art Deco piece.

Hope that helped,

Alain
