Jewels of Taste - Fantastic Tales Among Delicious Ornaments

Until 28th September 2025

When jewelry is… delicious! A new, special edition of “ Gioielli di Gusto ” is at the Museo del Bijou. On display at Palazzo Morando - Costume Moda Immagine in Milan in 2015 during the Expo dedicated to food (“Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”), the exclusive exhibition “Gioielli di Gusto.

Fantastic Tales of Delicious Ornaments” celebrates its tenth anniversary this year at the Museo del Bijou in Casalmaggiore, a unique and evocative space in Italy that preserves, recounts, and showcases a century of costume and fashion history across the entire sector. The exhibition is a precious meeting point between the worlds of “bijou” and that of food , offering a carefully curated selection of fabulous designer pieces to wear for a reflection, both serious and surreal and fantastical, on the relationship between jewelry and food. "Gioelli di Gusto" is an event promoted by the Municipality of Casalmaggiore and the Jewelry Museum, thanks to the significant contribution of Alimentis , a company specializing in high-end restaurant supplies and an ambassador of Italian gourmet art.

The delicacies of the table, expressing wealth, prosperity, and well-being, retrace the history of jewelry, from ancient to contemporary ornaments in countless designer creations. Grapes, pomegranates, pineapples, strawberries; wheat, pea pods, mushrooms, tomatoes; pasta, fish, crab, eggs, and game... not forgetting the drinks sector, suggested in more or less whimsical ways by cocktail rings or masculine objects like cufflinks.

This highly original concept gave rise to the exhibition conceived by jewelry historian Mara Cappelletti , staged in 2015 with the valuable contribution of curators Maria Canella (Fashion), Mariateresa Chirico , and Anty Pansera (Contemporary), and enhanced by the installations of Alejandro Ruiz , the brilliant internationally renowned designer who created a poetic and delicate setting composed of origami.

Ten years after its premiere, Gioielli di Gusto is presented at the Casalmaggiore Bijou Museum in a new guise, focused on historical and fashion jewelry, but with new forays into the prestigious contemporary sphere.

"The theme of food," explains Mara Cappelletti, creator and curator of the exhibition, "is a recurring theme in ornaments. Both the most precious 'pieces', but also vintage, contemporary, and fashion jewelry, have interpreted the world of the table throughout history (and in different ways).

With this exhibition, we wanted to explore and represent all these areas. Thanks to the passionate research carried out, those who visit the exhibition at the Museo del Bijou will immerse themselves in a series of 'fantastic tales' that combine aesthetic pleasure with that of taste."

The exhibition unfolds along a path that leads the visitor among the most delicious ornaments, through three distinct areas.

THE TASTE OF FASHION : tasty inspirations are not lacking in fashion, which often turns to fruit, ice cream, sweets, berries, pasta, and even eggs to give shape to the most fun jewelry and accessories. Moschino, Ferrè, Valentino, and Missoni, to name a few, have drawn inspiration from the theme of food in their creations.

CONTEMPORARY TASTE : This section presents a collection of unique pieces or pieces produced in very small series, related to the theme, among the most interesting in the Italian and international scene, the result of careful research into shapes and materials. These include jewelry by Lucilla Giovanninetti, Nicoletta Frigerio, and Eleonora Ghilardi.

VINTAGE TASTE : This section hosts a series of jewelry pieces from the second half of the 19th century to the 1990s, with pieces by major international costume jewelry designers such as Trifari and Italian ones such as Ornella Bijoux and Sharra Pagano, including the "gourmet" pieces from the Museum's collection. Visiting the Casalmaggiore Bijou Museum allows you to admire, in the right context, the historic accessories belonging to the museum's collection: "Gourmet-themed bijoux have spanned the centuries, changing styles, colors, and materials," says Letizia Frigerio , curator of the Casalmaggiore Bijou Museum. "Even today, they play an essential role in clothing and fashion. It's a unique opportunity to admire pieces of the highest value but also to highlight the original, splendid, and curious shapes of our museum's heritage." For further information, the catalog is available in the Bijou Museum bookshop. JEWELS OF TASTE curated by Mara Cappelletti, jewelry historian and critic, lecturer, and coordinator of conferences and seminars on the history of jewelry, complemented by publications on the subject. She designs and curates exhibitions on jewelry and fashion, also overseeing the scholarly production of catalogs. She serves as a curatorial consultant for museum and private collections. She is president of the cultural association Stile e Storia , which researches and promotes historical heritage, highlighting the relationship between art, fashion, and jewelry as aspects of the customs of an era. With a degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures from IULM University in Milan, she studied the history of jewelry and the history of Oriental art at Sotheby's Institute of Art in London.
