Baird-North Co. Auction
An item of interest to many Manchester and Beverly Farms readers of the Breeze is the announcement on page 17 of this issue that Baird-North Co., the well known Salem jewelry concern, is to sell out the balance of their stock, consisting of gold, gold-filled and sterling silver jewelry, rings, watches, toilet articles, cut glass, bric-a-brac, etc., at public auction beginning Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 7.30 p. m., and continuing daily at 2 and 7.30 p. m. until the stock is sold. When this concern removed their business to Providence last fall it was the intention to keep their Salem store open, but the recent death of Mr. Hussey, a member of the firm, brought about a change in this arrangement, and the firm is closing their store here entirely. North Shore people know well what an excellent line of goods these people carry and many will, no doubt, take advantage at the low prices to be obtained at an auction sale.

Assets of the Baird-North Co., Providence, Purchased by Boston Jewelry Concern
PROVIDENCE, R. I., June 3.—Assets, exclusive of real estate, of the Baird-North Co., large local and mail order jewelry concern at Broad, Ontario and Niagara Sts., and Lexington Ave., have been secured by Jason Weiler & Sons of Boston. Announcement was made this morning to this effect by William Weiler of the latter organization, which also conducts an extensive mail order business in jewelry. It is expected that further details of the transaction will be forthcoming shortly from representatives of the Boston concern but Baird-North officials declined today to comment on the sale.
The Baird-North Co. has been in operation at its present location, with offices at 861 Broad St., since 1907. In October of that year, the business, which was started in Salem, Mass., in 1900 was transferred to this city because of its proximity to the many jewelry manufacturing companies of this section. It is understood that the Baird-North business will be liquidated.

Window Smashed During Store Hours
Five minutes before the store was scheduled to close for the night on Jan. 30, a thief smashed the main display window of the Baird-North jewelry store on Weybossett St. and made away with 12 diamond rings valued at about $5,000. The theft was made while eight persons were in the store, including Richard Fenton, of Newton, Mass., proprietor of the store, Benjamin B. Wolf, manager, four clerks and two customers. The thief used a five-pound can of honey to smash the window and the heavy can damaged another ring. Store officials said the stolen rings were among the most valuable in the store and would have been locked up for the night within a few minutes.
