Donald W. Leach, a former executive vice-president and director of Wallace Silversmiths, Inc., and his wife have purchased Craig Village By-the-Sea, guest cottages at Craigville Beach, Centerville, Mass.

Henry S. Tholen was named general sales and merchandising manager for watches and Henry S. Alien appointed general sales and merchandising manager for Wallace Silversmiths. Tholen was formerly general sales manager; Allen had served as general sales manager and director of sales for Wallace.

R. W. Morris, Chicago manager for the R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co., has returned from a trip to Wallingford, where he went to attend the funeral of a daughter of H. L. Wallace, secretary of the company.

Charles Appleby, formerly with Wallace Silversmiths, has joined Master Specialty Products Manufacturing Co., Newark, N.J., as vice-president in charge of sales. Appleby was in charge of sales to department stores for Wallace.

Orlando Dunn, in the employ of the R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co., Wallingford, while working near an open fire in the forging room, on Monday of last week, sustained painful burns about the hands and arms by a spark which blew up and set fire to his clothing.
The R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. is busy making plans for the new year, and is working on an extensive program. The concern is condensing territories and adding new men. H. E. Reich, manager of the company’s Chicago office, announces that the following men have been added to the Chicago sales force: Jackson F. Boehm, who will cover Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado; John F. Stewart, Minnesota, North and South Dakota and Montana; Ross S. Baxter, Iowa and Wisconsin; Harry W. Dodd, Indiana. Otto Klueber, who has traveled out of the Chicago office of the Wallace concern, will be permanently located in St. Louis after Jan. 1. Mr. Klueber will call on the trade in St. Louis and adjacent territory for this firm. B. J. Townsend is now associated with the Chicago office of the Wallace house. He has been appointed branch assistant sales manager and is in charge of sales. Mr. Townsend formerly was branch manager for the Vacuum Oil Co. William Barker, the Wallace concern, is retiring from the road, and will devote his entire time to calling on the trade in Chicago. Mr. Barker called on the trade in the larger cities west of Chicago for the past 30 years. H. E. Reich, Jr., who called on Mr. Barker’s accounts for the past few months, owing to his illness, will take over the territory, commencing Jan. 1.

The R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. has added two new members to its organization. Charles H. Gregory has been appointed sales promotion manager and S. Daenitz has been chosen sales representative in Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky. Mr. Gregory’s former connections were with the Congoleum-Nairn, Inc., the Holmes & Edward division of the International Silver Co., and the Gundlach Advertising Agency, while Mr. Daenitz has been long identified with the jewelry trade in the retail and wholesale fields.
Ivan Ogilvie, Otto Kulber, Frank Fisher and H. J. Johnson, of the R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co., left recently for their respective territories and will be away for several weeks. Owing to ill health, William Barker will be unable to make his regular business trip, but H. E. Reich, Jr., will cover the territory for him.
Captain Rickenbacker Attends Wallace Street Dedication
Captain Eddie Rickenbacker of World War I fame and president of Eastern Air Lines, attended the dedication of Lufbery Avenue in Wallingford, Conn., on Oct. 21, at the Wallace Silversmiths plant. The street which leads into the Wallace plant was renamed in honor of Major Raoul Lufbery, Wallingford World War I ace and close friend of Rickenbacker, before his death in an air battle in France. The street is the address of the newly formed Wallace Aviation Corp., which makes jet compression blades.

C. D. Morris, superintendent of R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co.’s factory, Wallingford, was badly shaken up and severely injured last Wednesday evening, when his automobile collided with a trolley car. Both bones of his left hand was broken above the wrist.
MERIDEN, Conn.—Don J. Dorsey, for 14 years associated with Holmes & Edwards Division, International Silver Co., in the Middle West, has joined the R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. as special field representative in connection with its Silver Shod and Luxor Plate flatware lines.

Joshua M. Wingerd, at one time a member of R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co., sales organization has rejoined the company as office manager of the New York branch. Alfred Taylor, who recently resigned as sales representative for Reed & Barton Corp., has become associated in the same capacity with the New York branch of the Wallace Co.

The Fifty-Year Club of R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co., welcomed four new members at a dinner given September 23 at the Oakdale Tavern in Wallingford, Conn. The tenth meeting of the club, founded in 1945, honored William F. Doyle, Robbins A. Hall, William E. McCartin and Edgar H. Norton, who have completed fifty years of service at the company since the last meeting. Mr. Doyle is retired.
John W. Leavenworth, Sr., chairman of the board of directors of the company, acted as toastmaster and presented the fifty-year awards. Entertainment was provided by A. H. Handley of Boston.

Mrs. Burt J. Miller, wife of Burt J. Miller, of the R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co.’s Chicago office, died Jan. 27 after a prolonged illness. She is survived by her husband and one son, Elmer, who represents the Wallace company in Indiana and Michigan.
