Silver scissor, 18th century?

Post by Vantlicht »

This silver scissor is clearly marked with a Fleur de lis and the letters JKL M. However in my books I cannot find a match for this one.
Is it dutch? It looks and feels like 18th century silver. Hopefully somebody can determine this one? Thanks in advance!

The scissor does not bear a Dutch maker's mark. The maker's mark, fleur-de-lis above JKL.M. in contour, is most likely of a French 18th century silversmith.
Dutch ZII mark minimum 835/000 for objects which are submitted in finished condition, which consequently could then not be assayed as thoroughly, used 1953-today.
I will move you to the French forum for our French contributors perhaps they recognize the mark.

Agree with Peter. I found very similar marks in Helft, Le Poinçon des Provinces Françaises, 1985, page 500. It’s a pity that exactly this one isn’t there. Maybe an unknown master of small silverwork.
