Hello question about AP

Post by Spiderwood »

Hello, I have a query about a ring I bought and I want to check the silversmith’s code. This ring was told to me by the seller that it dates back to 1975, but I am afraid that it is a counterfeit because the silversmith’s code I searched for and did not find it until 1975, I mean with the code AP and sorry about my English thanks team [https://i.postimg.cc/9XSq7pCX/Screensho ... senger.jpg]

Hi,
I see no problem whatsoever with Birmingham marks for 1975: the maker is unknown to me, though.
Modern silversmiths, jewelers are not well documented.

Thank you my brother for the reply. I searched for the jeweler and found this code before 1910, so I became suspicious, in addition to the fact that the ring looks very clean.

Paton & Co. Ltd., 67-69 Beak Street, London had an 'A.P.' contained within an oblong at this time. Offered only as a route for further research.

I worked at Paton & Co in Beak Street in the 1970's and we were producing in gold & platinum. All hand made, not mass produced in silver. I worked on remnants of the old Russian Crown jewels there along with Bons Street antique jewellery ....... a time gone by now.....

The A.P. in Birmingham is a different mark, it's not Paton & Co in Beak Street.

Modern jewellers in the UK are very well documented indeed. You can get the manufacturers details direct from the particular Assay Office for either London, Birmingham, Edinburgh or Sheffield.
