Silverplate with silver mounts planter

Post by kmhoyt »

Hello!
I am completely stumped in identifying this plant holder. I tried to post pics but I need permission?
I have searched your site and found that the pineapple mark could be Hawksworth, Eyre & Company or Barker Ellis, but the imprints are slightly different.
The marks are the Pineapple, Made in England, and possibly a stylized S or G/JS, and Silver Mounts.
I believe the piece is silverplate with sterling? Silver raised decorations aka mounts, but there is no mark indicating plate.
I hope someone can help me with this mystery!

This is a mark of Ellis-Barker Silver Co as they were known in the USA or Barker-Ellis as they were called in the UK. See https://www.925-1000.com/silverplate_E.html.

Thank you! That was where my research was leaning, but it looked a bit different. Is the other mark (stylized S?) for the specific artist/silversmith? Can you tell me if there is a way to date the piece by the marks?

The stylised S mark is unlikely to identify any particular person as this is electroplate and it would have been mass-produced without any craftsman's (or woman's) involvement. There is no way of dating it (for now) beyond "20th century".
