Francois-Dominique Naudin?

Post by GiulyF »

Hy all,
is this hallmark attributable to Naudin? I rather read FPM than FDN, and in the middle there is no flower but rather it looks like a doll? any idea who it could be? under the finger rest of the tastevin there is an inscription HERBAGE, any ideas?

Hello

It would be courteous to show all the marks on your object to help in dating and provenance. The mark you show is not a hallmark, but perhaps a maker’s mark in a lozenge-shaped reserve. We can safely rule out Naudin as the maker, but would need the full set of marks to do any further research. For the mark of Naudin see here:

Naudin was a flatware maker, and would not have made a tastevin. His working dates were 1800-ca. 1840, so had the maker been Naudin, the hallmarks should correspond to those dates.

Francois Hubert Martin

Born: 31 Oct 1794 [10 brumaire an III], Paris, son of Pierre Joseph Martin & Reine Tiersot
Married: 11 Jun 1825, Paris, to Jeanne Camille Lereverend (1802-1878)
Died: 23 Jan 1885, Paris, 6th arrondissement

This mark – FHM with a crowned vine leaf and ermine spot – was registered on 13 Jan 1830 and cancelled 10 Mar 1862. Arminjon records him as a silversmith/timbale maker at 23 rue du Harlay and later 22 place du Parvis-Notre-Dame [see Arminjon I:01443]

Hope this helps!
