Hi Members
trying to work out if these are English letters? For a friend .Is this a U for Birmingham !840 ? On silver?cigar case ,sorry no images of case .

Or is it a fancy E ,for EPNS? only two letters showing ,are they a np ,hd ?

Would appreciate opinions.

Can’t exactly make out the letters, but won’t be surprised if they turn out to be “EPNS.”

Thanks Silverly

I feel you may be correct,I now feel the first letter may be an N ,for NPS.
Did they the N first on some occasions?

As we know most standard hallmarks do not start with 2 letters.

Not the gothic letter N but E, yes I believe it to be EPNS

Pretty much everybody used EPNS, the gothic/Old-English form being particularly popular. It is a generic abbreviation.
