RICH, John (Grimwade p.641, 396 also 261)

Post by buckler »

In Grimwade Section III, the mark 3678 (page 261) is given as perhaps John Roberts.
This mark is actually one of John Rich's two bucklemaker marks of 15th August 1780.

John Salter in Wine Labels states that St Pancras Parish records show the marriage of John and Elizabeth Rich in 1755. The IGI (not the most reliable of sources ) does not record this but does report the marriage of John Rich and Elizabeth Eburne in 1761 at St Pancras. Documents in the Warwickshire County Record Office (see below) indicates beyond doubt that Elizabeth was the daughter of John Eburne

Leslie Southwick "London Silver- Hilted Swords...." states, p94
" John Myatt, bucklemaker, and his partner John Rich were creditors in 1778 of Dru Drury"

1779 SUN 1 274 09\08\79 TW Policy Number 415378
Insured John Rich, Bucklemaker , John Street, Tottenham Court Road - Insured Value £ 200

The records at Warwickshire County Record Office indicate an address of John Street, Tottenham Court Road for both John Rich and his father in law, John Eburne. It seems likely that John Eburne may have been the prior occupier , and John Rich moved in soon after his marriage

Very extensively recorded by Salter for making wine lables. Salter records his death in 1807 although Rich had obviously retired to Bearley before then
From Warwickshire records - see below - he died in 1812 as his will was dated May 1812 and was proved in August of that year.
