Is this Birmingham 1887 Or Later?

Post by SilverLover1234 »

Hello All,

I recently acquired this 9ct gold bookmark which was sold as being dated Birmingham 1887. I have looked and looked online and in my books and the letter looks right for 1887 but it is always shown as being in an oval in the marks books. The shape the n is in looks to me to be more similar to 1912 and I am getting myself in a muddle so thought I would ask the for the forums opinion/expertise.

I would be really glad of any help or explanation and will not be disappointed whatever the date turns out to be as I love the item.

Thanks in advance!

It's 1887, the cartouches for gold and silver (what is usually shown in guides) differ.
