Silver Skiing Medal

Post by MikeP64 »

have been trying to find out something about this Cross Country Skiing medal.

It has been in my family for many years but my grandfather passed away 40 years ago without telling any of us the story behind it.

I thought it was from Finland around 1903 but the K.S. makers mark does not match up with that from what I can tell.

The identifying marks on the back are K.S., then a crown, then 813H, then an A with a line across the top and a dot on top of that and finally an X4.

Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

The marks are too small to make out in your photo, but Finland 1903 sounds right; the "Ã…" being the city mark of Turku (from its old Swedish name: Ã…bo) and the maker "K.S." being Kustaa Severin Sahlstedt, active in Turku 1892-1923.

Hope this helps!

Thank You.
My grandfathers family was from Turku so this does make sense.
I appreciate your help.
