Dear all
These photos are of a 6 and 1/4 inches (16 cm) spoon. I have interpreted the marks as those of Gorham silver but can't find this pattern's name anywhere. Also in my research, I have not seen 'COPYRIGHTED' on any spoons. please help
Gorham's multi-motif Versailles pattern, introduced in 1888, designed by F. Antoine Heller - not particularly uncommon to find 'COPYRIGHTED', usually with the year, as well as the much more common 'Patent', 'Pat'd', etc. Gorham did seem to use the 'copyrighted' designation more than other manufacturers, and they were fiercely protective of their designs...
I found "Patent Pending" on a gumbo spoon with an unusually long handle and it is a very difficult stamp to find. ::: I am wondering if the "Patent Pending" stamp on Versailles flatware is the very first stamp on the very first pieces ::: I've heard rumors of a comprehensive article about Gorham Versailles in "Silver Magazine" so I am wondering if the answer could be found therein. ::::
