Small personal coffee pot USATS Train?

Post by hpidaves »

I believe this small 6-1/2" tall silverplate coffee pot was used on trains -- the bottom is stamped in larger letters U.S.A.T.S. -- USA Transit System?
It is made by the Meriden Britannia Company and stamped 203. Does this seem right?

Thanks,
Dave

Ships...United States Army Transport Service...ran up to about 1948 or so before they cut it all finally. [We really don't know what was used on the occupation period duty trains before rails went back to their full domestic services. I've got a snapshot photo in a dining car, but the patterns and items have not been identified. A great mystery to be solved.]

Hi,

Would I be wrong to think that this item is more likely to be a syrup pitcher rather than a coffee-pot?

That seems to make sense -- it's certainly the right size.
