Swan and owl help

Post by mintymin »

Hi all
As you are talking about the swan again I wondered if you could help with this.
I have a modern ring that has the artist /make name scratched on the back (Gorig or Gong?) but I also noticed it has on the band the owl and the swan. The ring is silver with a bit of gold. They are small but I am hoping you can see them well enough on the pics.

I understand these finished in the 1970s and I would have said this was later than that.

What do the marks actually mean? Would it be on items received into France that they were retailing and which countries could the items have come from that needed these marks?
Thanks to you all

Hi
French import gold plus silver (mixed marks):
Owl hallmark indicating import into France from a Non-Treaty Country meeting minimum standards (1893-1990).Number 75 on chest is the most common (for Paris).
Swan has been discussed here many times.
Scratched letters (done by an amateur) could be the owner, not the maker.
