Silver amateur here...
Been trying to figure out a few markers on a beaker that has crossed my path.
- R
- Clover
- D
I have been told this might be 1786 'Rijksdaaler', but it seems that the R is the dating code for 1851?
Please correct me if i'm wrong.
thank you for your help!
Silver beaker unknown markers
Re: Silver beaker unknown markers
Hi welcome to the forum,
The RD mark has nothing to do with the Dutch coin "Rijksdaalder".

For Dutch (hall)marks see:

Re: Silver beaker unknown markers
Belgium (unofficially applied) barrel mark for responsibility and 3rd standard (.800) but without the box outline? See Dendriet comments in here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=55363&p=177845&hili ... 08#p177845

Thank you very much.Traintime wrote:Belgium (unofficially applied) barrel mark for responsibility and 3rd standard (.800) but without the box outline? See Dendriet comments in here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=55363&p=177845&hili ... 08#p177845
So i guess this cup wouldn't be 18th century at all as Belgium wasn't a country back then.
Re: Silver beaker unknown markers
I wouldn't make the leap to any conclusions on these marks quite yet, as it may only prove coincidental to what was noted in the link. Here is the site information showing Belgium requiring the barrel shape after 1942, but it's an unregulated system so it's hard to be sure about the "3" mark meaning in this case without further research: https://www.925-1000.com/foreign_marks.html
Re: Silver beaker unknown markers
And Dendriet did indicate the system was in use before 1942, but it is not clear if he was referencing only the standard mark or also the use of the barrel shape for the responsibility party lozenge.
