Mystery European Hallmarks on Antique Leather & Silver Jewellery Box

Post by mygoldrocks »

Hi Everyone,
I found this box in a pile of junk I bought and noticed that the hinges had hallmarks, I wonder if anyone can identify the country, maker and a rough date? The Maker mark stamped a few times seems to be "AKO", on the other hinge it seems to have "AKO" again and the what looks like two A's in boxes?
I am not sure if I have got the links to the photo's correct as it is a new host as my other one's have shut down.

Hi,
two A's in boxes
are secondary marks for Vienna assay office 1872-1922.It appears on finials, legs, handles etc, sometimes struck twice and sometimes with Diana`s head.
Could not find any legislation in regard of its use.
Regards

Anton Kolar of Vienna used an 'AKO' mark:

See: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=35107&p=166706&hilit=ako#p166706

I do not know if there is a connection, just offering it as a route for further research.
