Silver figural spoon II

Post by Granmaa »

This is another figural spoon of significantly worse quality to my previous one. Below the rat-tail on the back is stamped what looks like IF. There is also the date 1790 in dot engraving.

Can anyone tell me more about this spoon? I'd also be interested to learn what the man on the top is doing.

The only maker I can find with the mark IF is Johannes Feddema in Leeuwarden entered in 1780 and died in 1825.

Thankyou Margaux, I found this page with a picture of his mark and it seems to match. The engraved date fits in nicely as well.

Yes, Jan Schipper used the same book I did: "merken van Friese goud- en zilversmeden" or the Fr Voet 1974 as it is called. A remarkable good reference book for info on Friese gold- en silversmith's
