N.C marked twice

Post by mk209 »

I have 2 teaspoons with N.C struck twice. Is this Nathaniel Coleman? It doesn’t seem to match his punch shape?

Hi, probably Nathanial Coleman (1765-1842). he worked as a silversmith in Burlington NJ from 1787 to 1835. He was originally from New York state. None of his known marks quite line up with these but the style of the spoon is correct for his early working period. For more information about this silversmith see 'Silversmiths of New Jersey' by Carl Williams. Not a lot of pictures or marks in this book but excellent biographical info.
