Cat Caddy

Post by patagere »

Hello, I posted about this quite a while ago, and still haven't decided about purchasing it. But I'm interested again.
I have not been able to get information on the marks, which others here said where pseudo marks.
But a question - does the 13 Loth mark mark ALWAYS indicate the item was pre-1886? I've seen some comments saying it could be early 20th century - or could it also be later?
Here are the photos again in case someone recognizes the marks. TIA

Hi,
Loth standard accompanied by town mark does indicate pre 1886 (1888).
On the other hand,Hanau silversmiths used Loth standard alongside their pseudo marks and Tremmolierstich on silver made in late 19th and early 20th century.

Hi,
It is French the Weevil (charançon) mark used for imported silver.

Used between 1893 and 1984 for imported silver articles with a minimum fineness of at least .800.

Looks like that, although Germany was not the only country where Loth standard was used.Still,I opt for Germany and Hanau.
