Large Pitcher marks and coat of arms

Post by Biju »

Dear Experts,

Would appreciate any details on the following pitcher. I am looking to identify the usual: country & city of origin, metal content, maker, time period and coat of arms identity. Thank you all in advance!

Cheers,
Biju

Thank you so much Amena. That’s great information! Would you happen to know the approximate age and the content of the metal, since it has a yellowish tint?

These objects were produced around the 70s. I cannot understand the question about the content of the metal. It is silverplate and the metal is usually a copper alloy. How important can be the copper content?

Silver plated will usually be copper based (like brass) or nickel based. Usually it is not a pure copper base, as copper is too weak. Pure nickel under silver plate is an older plating method and rarely used anymore. Nickel is magnetic, whereas silver, copper brass and cupronickel are not.
Nickel silver, Maillechort, German silver, Argentan, new silver, nickel brass, albata, alpacca, is a copper alloy with nickel and often zinc. The usual formulation is 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc.
