Hi please can you help id these marks on my beautiful tray

Post by Chrissy123 »

Hi this is my first post and I'm hoping someone can help id my beautiful hand etched tray full of ornate detail please? It's definitely hand carved or etched as the ornate detail is different throughout the tray and there's no ghost marking (sorry don't know he name of that) to the back which to me, would show it's been impressed? Im hoping I've listed this in the correct area as in fairness, I don't know its origin, ( I think maybe either middle eastern or eastern?) and I don't have a clue about the script or markings on the back. I'm not even 100% sure if it's silver, it's not magnetic so it may be? I don't want to get it tested as that will mark it and I'm loath to do that with such a beautiful item, there is a lot of patina on the back and front of this stunning tray and areas of light iridescence but it hasn't been cleaned in years. Any info would be greatfully received, thanks

I understand that you are reluctant to to get it tested , but it would be better to do it. what you say "areas of light iridescence" looks a lot like copper that has lost its silver plating.

I know this is completely off topic, but I have a sterling silver tray that has a Owl Marking in it. I don't mean to bother anyone, I can't seem to post my own forums yet. or I just don't know how.
Anyway, the tray has a plain owl on the back. The Piece is 10 inches in circumference and weighs 400 grams. It has a very plain design almost art deco style, can you please help me figure out what it is?

Hello

With reference to the tray, the text in the first image is upside down.

The script is Arabic, the second word is Fes which is the second largest city in Morocco and a traditional centre of metal work.

Hope this helps.
