THE NASH CHALLENGE CUP
Australia
In order to stimulate the growing taste of Victorians for Rugby football Mr. A. E. Nash, one of the vice-presidents of the association, has presented a splendid silver challenge cup to be competed for perpetually by the clubs forming the Rugby Association. Last year, the first of the competition, the trophy was won by the Pirates, whose name is inscribed upon it. The cup was manufactured by Messrs. Walker and Hall of Sheffield, and is one of the handsomest football trophies ever competed for in the colonies. It is now on view in the window of the Victorian Cricketing and Sports Company, Elizabeth-street.

THE SANDERS CUP
TROPHY TO BE RETURNED SEQUEL TO RECENT DISPUTE
A decision to return tho Sanders Memorial Cup to the donors, Walker and Hall, Limited, was made at a meeting of the Auckland Yacht and Motor-Boat Association last evening.
Mr. C. H. T. Palmer, chairman of the association, presided over a full attendance of delegates. Discussion regarding the disposal of the cup was taken in committee. It was subsequently announced that tho following resolution had been carried on the motion of Mr. A. J. Codings, seconded by Mr. A. A. Coates: —
"That the secretary be instructed to inform Walker and Hall, Limited, that the association has now obtained possession of the Sanders Cup, which was presented to the Auckland Yacht and Motor-Boat Association in terms which required it to conduct the contests for the trophy. The association places on record that it has conducted all contests in complete collaboration with every other provincial association.
"Recently events have occurred of which the donors have been fully appraised by the association, and which make it impracticable for the association to continue tho contests for the cup in accordance with part of the terms of the original letter of gift. The original letter from Walker and Hall, Limited, states that if this situation should ever arise, then the association, the undoubted owner of the trophy, should, without any reference to the donors, hold contests for the trophy among the Auckland clubs.
"Notwithstanding this definite stipulation by the donors in the original gift, Messrs. Walker and Hall, without any reference to the association as owners of the cup, offered the trophy to another body, which accepted it. In face of this, the association asked Walker and Hall, Limited, whether they still desired to have the cup returned to them and, having received an affirmative answer, the association desires to return the cup accordingly."
The trophy is to be personally handed over to Walker and Hall, Limited, by the executive of the association, Messrs. C. H. T. Palmer, chairman, E. H. Northcroft, vice-chairman, and A. J. Codings, secretary.
