BANDITS HOLD UP JEWELER
Three Crooks Loot Store of Toronto, Can, Merchant, After Driving Him to the Cellar
Toronto, Can., Feb. 2—At about 5:30 p. m. on Jan. 29, three men entered the jewelry store of I. Shoot & Sons, 354 King St. W., where Isidore Shoot was seated at his desk. They pointed revolvers at him and ordered him to descend to the cellar. As he was going down the steps one of the bandits struck him on the head, knocking him to the floor and rendering him unconscious.
They then took from the safe which was unlocked, $4,500 in cash, $1,500 in Victory bonds, a diamond necklace worth $1,000 and other valuables, including $50 from the cash register.
Mrs. Shoot, who had been out, returned shortly after 6 o'clock and found several customers in the store waiting to be served and wondering why no one was in attendance. She discovered her husband lying unconscious in the cellar.
The back door was open, indicating that the robbers had escaped that way to a lane in the rear. Mr. Shoot suffered considerably from his injuries, but no serious consequences are anticipated.

E. MANIS - (ARONSON)
115, Craig Street West, Montreal
HELD UP AND ROBBED
Montreal Jeweler Round and Gagged By Bandits Who Escape with Diamond Rings Valued at $6,000
Montreal, Can., Nov. 3.—E. Manis, proprietor of the Aronson jewelry store, 115 Craig St. W., was held up and robbed on Thursday by two armed bandits, who rifled the safe and took 20 dozen diamond rings and other articles valued at over $6,000.
Mr. Manis states that the previous night a young man came in to buy a typewriter. He had not the kind of machine required, but offered to obtain one if the customer would call again. He was opening the store at 8:40 o'clock and had the safe open to take out the jewelry for display in the windows when the supposed customer came in. Mr. Manis started to show him the typewriter when the man drew a revolver and putting the barrel to the jeweler's mouth said:
"Put your hands up and don't make a noise or I'll put a bullet through you."
He backed Mr. Manis against the wall and a second man came in. They bound and gagged him and placed him on the floor of the office in the rear of the store while they emptied the safe.
It is believed that a third man kept watch in an automobile in which the bandits escaped.
The loss is covered by insurance. This is the second time this store has been robbed in the same manner during the past year.

WESLEY PURSER
848, College Street, Toronto
At about 9 o'clock on the night of Oct. 31 two young men entered the jewelry store of Wesley Purser, 848 College St., Toronto, Can.; and asked to be shown some rings. While one of them was inspecting a diamond ring valued at $130 the other pointed to a ring in a tray in the window and asked to look at it. While the jeweler was reaching into the window for the ring, the men ran off with the other ring and were joined by a third, who was posted outside. The three jumped into a waiting automobile and escaped.

PEERLESS PLATING COMPANY
Spadina Avenue, Toronto
James Sutherland, who was for fourteen years foreman plater for Roden Brothers, has started in business as the Peerless Plating Company, at Spadina avenue and Queen street. He will also manufacture hard metal and German silver novelties, also nickel silver or electro plated. He will put in machinery for the manufacture of sterling silver, electro plated, hollow and flat ware and work in gold, too. He is going to move to a larger location, as it is too small where he is at present. He has some good repair men and platers and will sell to the jobbing trade.
