Patent (1957) record showing Viva Duchin executrix of Maurice Duchin, deceased: https://www.google.com/patents/USD18553 ... +Duchin%22

Maurice may be a cousin of Dr. Maurice Samuel Duchin (04 July 1902 Kiev - 05 Feb. 1949 US) as follows....

Harry & Sarah Duchin parents of children including Samuel (21 April 1877 Kiev) [Father of Maurice Samuel] and his brother William Duchin (15 May 1882 Kozelets, Chernigov, Ukraine - 29 March 1958 Somerville Mass., USA....wife Celia (nee) Mankewitz born 1883 Russia). William & Celia had 3 children...Ida C. Grubow (born 1905 Ukraine), Maurice Duchin (born 20 April 1912 in Cambridge Mass.-died unknown, but see patent above), and Minnie Mildred Bean. All from available online records, no definite proof that Maurice ran this silver works source yet.

Apparently Salvador Dali executed works (tiles?) for Maurice Creations around 1954.

A version of the Hand-and-D mark was filed in 1962 claiming use from 1956...related to other objects, non-specific to the silverware items: https://www.trademarkia.com/d-72138849.html

A trademark related to silver items for "Maurice Duchin, Inc." was filed around 1982 and has expired.

Indeed an Eddy Duchin (famous musician) link. William Duchin's brother Frank Duchin (02 June 1885 - 16 May 1957 Cambridge USA) married Tillie (nee) Baron in June 1908...son Edwin Frank ("Eddy") Duchin (10 Apr. 1909 Cambridge - 09 Feb. 1951). [Perhaps if this was used as a selling point, it might explain why so many candle-holders exist...something to put on pianos!)

Providing this as the article is too large to condense:

Source is Asbury Park Press, Asbury Park N.J., Sunday August 22, 1976...page 63. Summation of some points..Viva Duchin as stepmother of Duchin Brothers (Richard & ?) in charge of joint Shatkin/Duchin Families controlled operation wherein Monmouth Silversmiths @ 487 Shrewsbury Avenue produces silver articles marketed under name "Duchin Silver".

Other searches on Viva reveal name variations Viva Duchin White, Viva D. Duchin White, & Viva P. White. Variously tied into names Francia A. White of N.Y. (born 1946), Francia E. White of N.Y & MA, and Carol Jane Satterwhite N.Y./Carol Jane Muldaur. These last are linked by Lawrence White, Jay S. White, and Satter White (?) of MA. [All listings are referred as possible relative only.] None of these other names are linked to Maurice Duchin except through (his 2nd wife?) Viva.

Oops, forgot this...a better source on Dali shows Maurice Duchin purchased several paintings in 1950 and contracted with a firm to put these images onto the tiles in 1954. Even if Dali approved this use (with his signature), he does not seem to have any direct connection to the firm here. Just wanted to clear that up even though it does not concern the silver making elements.

From Social Security Death Master File (Public Archival Information): Viva D. Duchin White...born 03 June 1912...died 19 Dec. 2001...SSN 547-18-0245 (indicating California).

US Patents # 2,468,817 Pocket Container For Postage Stamps...Filed 01 June 1946...Granted 03 May 1949...listed under name Viva Duchin (as sole inventor).

All seems to indicated Maurice and Viva were married by 1946, and that Maurice died somewhere between the Dali tiles of 1954 and the "executrix" listing on the 1957 Patent. [So far, no obituary information seems to exist for Maurice.]

The address: 230 5th Avenue was formally known as the Victoria Building, built 1914 on the site of the old Victoria Hotel. At 20 stories, it housed offices and sales/showrooms but apparently not manufacturing. Though covering many aspects of interior design such as carpets, it was un-offially known as the "Lighting Building" as many firms in this line were attracted to the location. [Needless to say, it was an upscale oriented district in the past and throughout the time Duchin Creations was there.]
