Mark on sterling box - is it American?

Post by lion925 »

Here is a nice sterling cedar lined box, about 6" x 4". It is a nice heavy gauge of silver and is well marked, but I cannot identify the maker and I wonder if anyone can help. I've consulted several sources, and though the mark looks vaguely familiar to me, I cannot put my finger on the maker. I would appreciate any help.

Hi,

What is the lettering contained within the oval? I see 'F' 'W', but what are the others?

The mark appears to contain the letters FWGE or FWOE. I joe this gives some direction. Thank you for helping!

Hi Leo,

It's German.
