porringer with 830 mark early Norwegian?

Postby imnideit » Wed Sep 05, 2007 7:05 pm

I know this doesn't have a makers mark but is definitely 830 silver (there is a thin spot and hole worn in it with no base metal showing and lots of old repairs) and just wondered if anyone knew anything about it's origin or date, thank you for any help.

Tough without handling it, but there is a certain heaviness about it more in keeping with pewter. Are you sure it is silver?

I haven't tested it but it really doesn't look like pewter in my hands, I know pewter can be polished to a silver looking shine and have done it, this is unpolished. I emailed to a friend who is a Norwegian silver expert and she said it's definitely not Norwegian (would have an S to right no matter what), should have emailed her first, she doesn't know where it's from, so then Danish or Eastern European? I will test also asap. Thanks
