Is this Austrian silver?

Post by AllSeasons »

I'm trying to figure out where this piece hails from. It looks like the Austrian dog head mark for 800. It also says 800, which is more common in Germany (or Germany-speaking countries). I'm not familiar with the last mark, which I assume is the maker's mark? Any insight you can provide would be appreciated.

The images are below. Thank you in advance.

Hello, believe we need better closeups of the marks. Cleaning them before making another shot may do the trick. Regards, Bahner

Thank you for the reply. I actually haven't purchased this yet. Based on these marks, is it safe to assume that it's 800 silver?

Can you see any analogies with this mark?

On the partial mark on the left can you read FI ?
If so, then it is Pampaloni of Florence.
Just a guess

HI,
Austria-Hungary dog`s head mark for 800 silver (small items). They used dog`s head on sugar castors, although Diana`s head would be more appropriate for an object of this size.
For Italian marks see here:

Either way, there is no problem with the marks.

Wow, I did some quick research, and Pampaloni is a famous silversmith? Their stuff is quite expensive! Are they comparable to someone like Buccellati?
