Silver salts marked 13 1/4 IT

Hello,
I have a pair of silver salts are stamped 13 1/4 IT. I understand the 13 1/4 refers to the silver content and thought IT could mean Italy but can't find reference to Italy using the lot system of grading silver. Any further info would be very welcome

13 1/4 sounds Norwegian or Danish but photos are needed.

I've been reliably informed by the kind chap at solvstempler that these are by Jacob Tostrup , 19th century.

Mind my saying but the fineness of 131/4 lot was used in Norway around 1820-1830. Jacob Ulrich Holfeldt Tostrup born 1806 in Hjelmeland/NO and dead 1890 became master 1832 in Christiania/NO. Before that he worked in St. Petersburg among some other places abroad. Moreover, he punched (after 1832) IT and ITH, both in a shield. He also punched TOSTRUP and a conjoined TJ in a round shield. Your mark has no shield, the years do not match etc... This is more reliable info from Norsk Sølv, gullsmeder gjennom 600 år, author Jorunn Fossberg. In my opinion, forget Tostrup it is somebody else, sorry!

::::: What you are seeing as "IT" is the blank space in the cartouche around two letters, a more in-focus pic would show this better. :::: There seem to be two letters & the letter on the right is half-struck for some reason perhaps due to wear perhaps a worn punch. :::: Also why was the 13-1/4 stamp only used during the 1810-1820, I think I've seen pieces with 13-1/4 from the mid-19th century? :::::

Sorry, 1820-1830, is that the exclusive time period for the 13-1/4 fineness hallmark according to the books cited?

Unfortunately no, the years are "around"(as I also wrote). The silver marking system in Norway was rather inexact/insufficient in the old days (still is a bit). Moreover, they have used a huge variety of silver fineness in the past 12,0, 12,1/2, 13, 13,1/3L, 13,1/4L, 14,0, 14,0L... to 1892 when the changed to promille (830S, 830 or higher). The above is not a complete "list" because it is a much longer and rather complicated story including use and marking of the other marks too...
