Unknown Austrian Maker AxK

Post by dartsil »

Hello all.

I wonder if anyone can assist with the maker on this box?

Its marked with Diana Head as well as the number 2 denoting 900 purity and the letter A for Vienna, however I have been unable to identify the makers mark of AxK, any assistance appreciated

Hi Colin
Stunning quality box, Sorry I do not know maker. Would like it in my collection.

Would be interested to know what the plaque on the top is made of ? is it ivory, or a resin ,bakerlite material?
As I have recently purchased a box with carved ivory top,see other countries,Fratelli Cacchione.
Would be interesting to know where these carved plaques were done ,if in the country the boxes were made Austria ,Italy ,or bought in from France (Dieppe) or Germany,by the maker of the box.

Regards Guido (hope you find the maker)

HI Guido

I am not 100% sure if its ivory and will not be doing the destructive test to find out , if I was pushed I would say ivory but just not the full 100% sure on it.

Pity no one seems to know maker to possibly narrow down the date of the box.

Colin

Hi Colin
thanks for your reply
If it is Ivory you should see some grain ,Ivory also has what they call Schreger lines, which if it has those ,will make it ivory.

Also if you look at it under a blue light ,and if it stays a white colour and does not got a blue colour it will be ivory.

I am sure you will find the maker, looks like he was a quality maker ,he will come up.

date looks 1920-30s to me ,just a guess.

regards Guido.

Thanks Guido

I have moved it on so its no longer with me but if I do get the maker I will pass it onto the owner of the box.

The maker is Anton Komrmayer, or Albert Kreisa.
