Souza's (Lisbon & other) are coming up in threads as "Sousa". Heres one that might relate but pictures are lost: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=23132&p=55811&hilit ... bon#p55811

Even if you are familiar, we should toss in the link to Portugese standards marks for other readers with interest: https://www.925-1000.com/Fportugal1938.html

Given the possible difference of maker and retailer, see if you can focus on a clear view of the small marks left of the standards. The reference book sources are mentioned in several threads, but you might need to wait for someone with access to come around and see your entry...Portugal can be a bit of a pain for the impatient.

The info I could glean off the net was that A.L. deSouza LDA mark has been found on pieces with Lisboa assay marks both before and after 1937, and with added maker marks unidentified in notes. (I kidnapped some images supporting one assay identification.) What I could not confirm were other claims of assays done allegedly in Oporto, but if true then this retailer is either in both places or being supplied from both. For your maker, the mark should contain a device with a single letter generally based on the first name of the silversmith. Whatever you can note might help. [In 20 pages of entries for Portugal on this site, there was nothing of help for this one.]

What appears to be a mid-century postal art card from A. L. De Sousa, L.da places an address at Travessa Guilherme Cossoul.18 which is a side street about two blocks long, bricked on an uphill grade. All apartments now.
