Children- or doll set?

Postby Joerg » Sun Feb 19, 2017 11:08 am

Hi
I bought this set in an online auction. No information available of its history. This set is very small, the box is 15 cm long and 8 cm wide. The spoon is12 cm long, the knife is also 12 cm, the fork is 11cm. The handles on fork and knife are only 4.5 cm!!!
What can you tell me on this set?
I think it is too small for children, is it a toy set? For a doll house?
No marks, only the blade is marked with MANZ A ZURICH. In the late 1700 was a silversmith Manz in Zürich, however, the set is later. I think it dates from around 1850, or a bit later. What do you think?
The case is in excellent condition. This item was not used, at least not to play with.
I have never seen handles in this wire soldering technique, made in Switzerland. Any guess where the knife and fork handle could origin?
Any other ideas you can share?
Thank you, Jörg

Hi,
Dollhouse silverware sets almost never exceed 5 cm, spoons and forks being about 3 cm.
Filigree is really unusual for Switzerland.
