Please help identify silver hallmark, maker's mark on silver cup

Postby Gerox » Sun Feb 12, 2017 6:10 am

Hello All,
There is a nice silver cup, 925 silver.

Another item of which I can't find the maker's mark.

Has anybody an idea about dating and origin?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Gerox,

I can't add anything more than AG2012 has already said in regard to your questions however I will point out that your cup has 12 spoon hanging points on the top rim.

Therefore probably not a cup but technically a bowl. A sugar bowl to be precise. I have seen complete sets in the past, with the matching spoons and they all had a lid.

If you google " silver bowl with 12 hanging spoons" you find examples in both solid silver and silver plate. I have seen some some elaborately decorated ones which were referred to as caviar bowls. Yours, I believe is a sugar bowl as I understand caviar bowls were always either lined or glass with a silver overlay.

So now you just need to find the lid and the twelve matching spoons :) :)

Hello Steve,
Thanks for this great tip.
Have it ever considered as a sugar bowl with hanging spoons.
I've now googled .... Fantastic! Sure it would be great with lid.
I think it is also a nice piece.
Thanks again for the hint.
Best regards
Gerox
