help for origin

Postby frenchie_myriam » Mon Aug 21, 2006 11:23 am

Hello everyone,

I have this lovely combination dip pen which leaves me puzzled. There is one hallmark on the ring which looks like a french BIGORNE impress but the other hallmark does not look french. It looks like a crown containing a stylized A surrounded on the right side by an Angel and on the left side by another person.

Can anyone help ?

Thanking you in advance

Best Regards
Myriam

The mark on the ring appears to be a Russian "kokoshnik" hallmark in use 1896-1908, with the "84" for 84/96 or .874 silver. Unfortunately, the assayer's initials, which would identify the city of manufacture, are obscured. Still, the two marks together are enough to say that your pen is Russian, .875 silver, made between 1902-1908 and exported to Austria.
