Could this be French

Hi, i have this lovely silver cherub mounted chamber stick but i am unsure where its from or the date or maker, the rubbed mark does look french but im not completely sure, any help would be appreciated

In Rome, the marks of silversmiths were of this type.

If you can read something in the diamond you might find the silversmith.

Thank you so much for your info, i have had a very close look and from what i can see it is P16 ? but i cant make out the last letter

There is only one Roman silversmith listed in my book (Donaver- Dabbene) whose mark begins by P16 .....
