Ventrella Roma silver box

Postby sebastian4743 » Tue Dec 16, 2014 4:08 pm

I want to by my wife a nice silver box but I am aware of fakes of Italian and Russian silver which are flooding the market. I came across this box:

It is signed Ventrella Roma 39 Mi or 59 Mi

It has a nice art deco look but I assume it was made in the 90s or later. What is your opinion on that?

Hi Sebastian,

That would be 39 MI. The maker is Fratelli Cacchione. See: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=27003&p=66183#p66183

Ventrella is likely the retailer.

The item looks fine to me. It would have been made sometime between 1944 and around 1971 when the new punches were finally issued.

Trev.

Trev`s dating is correct; there is F.C for Fratelli Cacchione 1949 (or earlier) to 1970 when the name changed. Whatever initials later than 1970 could be CF or GC.
Have no idea what they had to do with Tiffany in this particular set of marks unless imported to USA. Italy mark is too obvious and honest.
Ventrella (Naples and Rome) were documented retailers. ``Orafi F.lli Cacchione, firmati da Ventrella — Roma``
They are jewelers in the first place.

FRATELLI CACCHIONE (1949)
changed to CACCHIONE FILLI S.n.c. (1970)
changed to CACCHIONE FRATELLI srl (1990)
changed to GRUPPO CACCHIONE di Oscar Cacchione e C. (2010)

You should buy the box. It looks genuine mid century Italian silver to me and let`s have in mind it was the time when Italy was recovering from WWII and craved for hard currency;the quality deteriorated later on with exception of well known family businesses.
Have a nice day

Thank you AG2012 for your time. I have bought it and hope my wife will like it.

I just regret I can't share with you the price tag as the forum regulations does forbid it (wonder why).

Happy Christmas to all of you!
