Help identify please - 2

Postby Tone » Sat Jan 25, 2014 2:29 pm

I apologise if I should have created a separate thread for this, but this piece of silver sits alongside the previous in my cabinet as they came together. It was also imported into London. I have photographed it and the hallmarks. I added a third blow up photo as the pseudo mark is worn and not sure if anyone can decipher it.

Hi Tone,

Some information that may help with further research to find the maker of the piece.

The item was imported via the London Assay Office in 1894, the sponsor being Franz Carl Berthold Müller, of 165, Waldour Street, Soho.

Müller appears to be perhaps the sole agent for B. Neresheimer & Söhne of Hanau at this time and also known to import items by W. Lobensteyn of Schoonhoven, J.D. Wendels, also of Schoonhoven, and Franz Held of Vienna. So we know he contacts in Germany, The Netherlands, and Austria.

Hi Trev.
Thanks for that. I just looked at the Hanau Pseudo link and I have one more piece of silver, a small jug, that is certainly credited to B. Neresheimer and Sohne. There are no other distinctive marks within the piece and certainly no import marks. Could you by any chance explain why there are no import marks if the jug is in this country? Would you like me to post images of the jug, and the only other mark if indeed it is a mark is on the side near the top. I want to say that it resembles an animal, but not sure. It has been rubbed a lot. It is definitely rectangle in shape denoting a mark.

Thanks

Tone

Hi Tone,

Please start a new topic with your other item.
