Silver cups from Austria

Postby huszas76 » Sun May 26, 2013 12:25 pm

Hello Everyone!

This is some pictures about 2 silver cups. The marks aren't suspicious for me, I hope, i'm not wrong. Made in Austria, the mark shows the year 1749, the fineness is 13 lots.

Just thinking; what`s the chance for two beakers with year 1749 to emerge at the same time at the same place? Should Radelpunze really look like this?
The earliest Radelpunze I have is 1777, but it does not help much, does it? Still, the shape of both ``13`` and ``1749`` is a bit distorted. Not suggesting anything - benevolent comments, that`s all.

It looks to me as if the two beakers are a set where one fits indie the other for stowage which would account for a pair turning up. However I am not competent to comment on the marks.

Hi!
As we all know, everything is possible about the marks, but I agree with agphile. I think, these are from a set, especially it wasn't rare in Hungary mostly 17-18. century. It was a tipical type of items, when more different size of cups made to fits each other, sometimes 12 pieces! This called "egybejáró pohár" or haufebecher.
The biggest sometimes was near to 1000 grams.
About the radelpunze. We know, it was a little different in every year, and I have only 2 older marks like this, the one I showed in the chalice, and another one from 1737 in a barokk sugar box, wien.
Maybe somebody familiar with the silver from Austria, and can help us.
Regards!
