Austrian Silver Ladle

Postby neurorocker » Thu May 02, 2013 9:02 am

A Austrian ladle with ? D. Jonas. Name is possible A. D. Jonas. Is this Adolph Jonas of Vienna. Stamped for 800 silver and difficult to tell, but does not appear to have a city mark. About 70 grams. Can anyone date and identify maker? Hopefully, these images embed correctly!

Hi Neurorocker,

Well done with the images.

See here: http://www.925-1000.com/Faustria_02.html For the Austrian assay letter codes that Hose_dk mentions.

Yes, I finally got under a 10x. The mark is quite faint, but it appeare to be an A for the Vienna assay, and the quality mark is 3 -- 800 silver. So, anyone have an idea as to maker and year?

Based on the angle and script of the 3, it falls into the post 1872 category.

To me, from the chart here http://www.925-1000.com/Faustria_02.html it looks like its from the period 1872 - 1922

The noted Vienna addresses of Adolf Jonas:

Rothenthurmstaße 6 (1873-1881)

Wipplingerstraße 4 (1882-1883)

Rothenthurmstaße 6 (1882-1891)

His registered mark was a horizontal oval with the Antique letters AJ.

Hey Trev,

That's interesting. So how would you attribute the mark?

Thanks,
Nate

Hi Nate,

I have very little in the way of Austrian references, I was passed the address details by a friend.

A retailer mark perhaps?
