Beaker 4 inches tall; guilloche décor without enamel. ``Radelpunze`` for Vienna 1810 and ``Taxfrei`` mark, maker`s mark ``TS`` or ``ST``?
``Radelpunze`` (Wheelmark) of this form was used between 1807 and 1814.
The mark for 1807 was in use until 1809, the mark for 1810 was used until 1812. Consequently, all items bearing the year marks of 1808, 1809, 1811, and 1812 can be regarded as fakes.

Guillochage is the act of cutting geometric patterns in a rotating metal surface with a stationary cutting tool called a rose engine. Translucent enamel can be applied over guilloché metal.
Attached photo of Mercklein rose engine lathe made in 1780.
Rose engines are not to be confused with ``engine turning `` (a much cheaper process).

Hi,

Perhaps not so easy to determine what specific engine has been used to apply the decoration but it involves a technique of engine turning.

Guilloché (Guilloche) is a decorative engraving technique in which a very precise intricate repetitive pattern or design is mechanically engraved into an underlying material with fine detail. Specifically, it involves a technique of engine turning, called guilloché in French

Terminology may be confusing, as well as what particular tool is used.Still, rose engine cut is easily distinguished from ``engine turning`` commonly seen.

Excellent! The information is most valuable; the silversmith entered the guild in 1811, proving the fact ``Riedelpunze`` for 1810 was used until 1812. Thanks a lot.
